Abengoa, selected to construct two substations and a transmission line in Chile

The project will connect a generation plant from biomass that will generate clean energy to supply the plant and whose surplus will be provided to the National Electric System.

May 20th, 2019 - Abengoa (MCE: ABG/P:SM), the international company that applies innovative technology solutions for sustainability in the infrastructures, energy and water sectors, has been selected by Arauco, one of the main producers of cellulose and wood derivatives in Chile, for the development of a new transmission project in the Andean country.

This award includes the construction of a 220 kV-transmission line and two substations to connect a generation plant from biomass owned by Arauco to the National Electric System (Sistema Electrico Nacional-SEN) through the Lagunillas substation, property of the Chilean transmission company Transelec.

These works are part of the Modernization and Expansion of the Arauco Plant project (called MAPA – Modernizacion y Ampliacion de la Planta Arauco), which includes the expansion of two plants owned by Arauco, one for cellulose and another for the generation of electricity from biomass. This second plant will generate clean energy to be self-sufficient and the surplus will be provided to the National Electric System.

These contracts consolidate Abengoa’s position as a leader in the construction of transmission lines and substations, with more than 3,000 km of 23-500-kV lines and more than 40 substations built in the country and more than 27,000 km on lines and 330 substations built in last 15 years worldwide.
